  Brent crude futures shed 12 cents, or 0.19%, to $64.62 a barrel by 0022 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 15 cents, or 0.24%, at $61.38 a barrel.
  "Crude oil edged lower as the market contemplated the outlook for rising OPEC supply," Daniel Hynes, senior commodity strategist at ANZ, said in a note.
  Eight OPEC+ members that had pledged additional voluntary cuts are now expected to meet on May 31, one day earlier than previously scheduled, three sources within the group told Reuters on Monday.
  The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, collectively known as OPEC+, will likely finalise July output at the meeting, which sources have previously told Reuters will entail a production increase of 411,000 barrels per day.
  This month, OPEC+ agreed to accelerate oil output increases for a second consecutive month in June.
  However, losses were limited as U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension to trade talks with the European Union until July 9, alleviating immediate fears of tariffs that could suppress fuel demand.
  Elsewhere, Iran set the official selling price for its light crude oil grade for Asian buyers at $1.80 a barrel above the Oman/Dubai average for June, the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said. The price it set for May was a premium of $1.65.
  
  Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that Iran would be able to survive if negotiations with the U.S. over its nuclear programme fail to secure a deal.
  If nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran fail, it could mean continued sanctions on Iran, which would limit Iranian supply and be supportive of oil prices.

Read more Europe’s benchmark natural gas prices rose early on Monday following an unplanned cut to capacity of the giant Troll gas field in Norway, the single largest supplier of gas to Europe.
  
  Dutch TTF Natural Gas Futures, the benchmark for Europe’s gas trading, jumped by 2.2% at trade open in Amsterdam on Monday, before easing some gains to trade 1.2% higher at 11:30 a.m. local time.
  
  The rise at the start of this week extends four consecutive weeks of weekly gains in European gas prices as the market is reacting to unplanned supply disruptions at a time when Europe races with time – and with Asia – to refill gas storage sites ahead of the 2025/2026 winter.
  
  The unplanned cuts to Troll’s capacity in the North Sea comes ahead of planned extensive maintenance season at several Norwegian gas fields, which will reduce pipeline supply to Europe in the summer.
  
  Currently, Norwegian gas supply is somewhat restricted as there is planned maintenance at the Nyhamna processing plant and the Aasta Hansteen field.
  
  Thus, European countries will have to rely on more LNG cargoes to bring natural gas to the continent.
  
  Last year, Troll produced record-high volumes of natural gas, up by 10% compared to the previous high from 2022, the field operator Equinor said early this year.
  
  “With record-high production in 2024, the Troll field confirms its position as a pillar of Europe's energy security. The field contributes to a stable gas supply for millions of households and is important for European industry,” Kjetil Hove, Equinor's executive vice president for Exploration & Production Norway, said at the time.
  
  Traders and analysts will be watching closely the pace of Europe’s storage refills in the coming months, as well as LNG demand in Asia and whether North Asian demand would rise and potentially compete for spot cargoes with Europe.

  Maduro, who has ruled the country with the world’s largest crude oil reserves since 2013, could incur even more sanctions from the United States on the oil industry and state oil firm PDVSA.
  
  Venezuela’s electoral council, which is dominated by Maduro loyalists, said that the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela, PSUV, won governorship in 23 out of the 24 states. Turnout was estimated by the council at 43%, while the opposition says only 13% of voters voted in the election.
  
  One of the key opposition leaders, Maria Corina Machado, has called for a boycott of the elections, which were rushed ahead of schedule. The opposition called the vote illegitimate and called for a boycott in response to Maduro’s crackdown on the opposition in recent months.
  
  Maduro’s tightened grip on power could lead to new sanctions from the United States. The vote in Venezuela was held days before the expiry of the U.S. licenses for foreign firms – including supermajor Chevron – to operate in the country.
  
  Last week U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the U.S. license allowing companies to operate in Venezuela’s oil industry will expire as planned on May 27.
  
  Earlier this year, the Trump Administration revoked Chevron’s license to operate in Venezuela and export oil from its oilfields, setting May 27 as the deadline for Chevron to wind down its operations in the South American country.
  
  Venezuela saw its oil exports slump by nearly 20% in April from March to the lowest level in nine months, after state-owned oil firm PDVSA canceled cargoes for Chevron.
  
  Further declines in Venezuela’s oil shipments are expected in May and going forward, as the U.S. Treasury has revoked a license for French oil firm Maurel & Prom to operate in Venezuela and is no longer allowing firms, including Eni and Repsol, to receive oil from PDVSA in lieu of payments.

  The trajectory of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) demand is now marked by “deep uncertainty,” according to the president of the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers (GIIGNL), signaling a more cautious tone from one of the industry’s most influential voices.
  
  Speaking at an industry event in Paris, GIIGNL President Anne-Sophie Corbeau noted that although long-term fundamentals remain strong, short- to medium-term demand projections are increasingly difficult to pin down due to volatile pricing, geopolitical fragmentation, and uneven economic recoveries in key Asian markets. GIIGNL’s annual report, also released today, underscores that while global LNG imports reached 405 million tonnes in 2024 — up from 401 million in 2023 — growth is slowing, and regional dynamics are diverging.
  
  This comes as the U.S. Department of Energy last week officially resumed approvals for LNG export permits, ending a politically charged freeze that had stalled billions in Gulf Coast investments. The Biden administration’s earlier pause had rattled developers, but U.S. LNG still remains a dominant force, accounting for nearly 30% of global supply in 2024.
  
  Despite recent trade friction, including Chinese tariffs on U.S. LNG, American exporters have maintained a strong position in the global market. Flexible contracting models, competitive pricing, and access to Asian and European terminals have helped U.S. LNG continue expanding even in the face of regulatory uncertainty and shifting geopolitics.
  
  Europe’s imports dipped slightly in early 2025, while demand from China and South Asia showed only modest recovery, held back by price sensitivity and stronger domestic gas output in some markets. Meanwhile, new regasification capacity in Germany and India may support late-year growth, but analysts warn that without clearer long-term policy signals, buyers remain cautious.
  
  Trading desks are now watching how flexible contracts and spot-market exposure will shape flows into 2026, particularly as Qatar, the U.S., and Australia expand capacity amid increasingly competitive global pricing.   Indonesia seeks to show the United States that it is working to reduce its trade surplus with America and pledges to buy more U.S. products, especially energy, to reduce its trade surplus.
  
  Last week, Indonesia’s Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia urged Pertamina to import American fuel regardless of the logistical challenges, Jakarta Globe reported.
  
  “There is no excuse [to not import from the US]. We have already imported liquefied petroleum gas [LPG] from the US,” Lahadalia was quoted as saying.
  
  Fuel imports from the U.S. would take about 40 days for a cargo to arrive in Indonesia, compared to a week or two for imports from Asia and the Middle East.
  
  However, Indonesian authorities appear intent to avoid the steep ‘reciprocal’ U.S. tariff – currently suspended – which President Donald Trump slapped on Asian countries in early April.
  
  Earlier this month, Lahadalia said that Indonesia plans to slash its fuel imports from Singapore and source more refined products from the United States as the country looks to negotiate lower tariffs with the U.S.
  
  Indonesia was slapped with one of the highest tariffs - 32% - in the “liberation day” tariffs announced by President Trump. These tariffs have been suspended until early July, during which time the Trump Administration expects most countries to come pleading their cases and promising to boost their imports of U.S. goods to avoid high tariffs.
  
  “It is not only a matter of price but also geopolitical issues, we need to have a balance with other countries,” Lahadalia said earlier in May.
  
  In April, the minister said that Indonesia, which is Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, would offer to buy an additional $10 billion worth of American oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
